  • Corporate communicator by day and performance poet by night…if there’s one thing to say about Meredith Z. Avakian, it’s that she loves words.

    Meredith works full-time as a public affairs specialist for DuPont Co., based in Wilmington, Del. In this role, she provides tactical and strategic communications support to the senior vice president of DuPont Operations & Engineering, including speechwriting, talking points, video scripts and other tools. Meredith also develops and executes global internal communications plans to properly position and communicate the strategy and goals of DuPont Operations.

    Prior to this new position, Meredith was the senior public affairs representative at DuPont, where she served as the editor of DuPont Network News, the corporation's daily, global, online newsletter. Some of her other responsibilities included: managing employee communications content on the DuPont internal website; organizing translations for executive communications; coordinating global employee communications projects; producing, directing and editing videos; and, editing the company’s Annual Review.

    In her “spare” time, Meredith recently published a book of her poetry titled “Propaganda Begins with PR: Poetry for the Soul” and launched her own spoken word website – www.mzapoetry.com – which features some of her work. She is in the process of writing her second book of poetry, which will be titled “PRhyme Time: Power of Poetry.”

    Meredith is an active member of the Philadelphia Public Relations Association (PPRA) and won the organization’s 2009 President’s Fast-Track Award and 2006 Dr. Jean Brodey Award. She is serving as a director on the Board and has chaired PPRA’s Social Programs Committee and College Relations Committee. Meredith also is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

    Prior to working at DuPont, Meredith attended Temple University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations. At Temple, she was the president of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and served on the chapter's executive board for two years. Meredith also has earned PRSSA's National Gold Key Award and National President’s Citation. While in college, Meredith completed several communications internships including: Please Touch Museum, U.S. Department of Labor and Outer Orbit Productions.

    Meredith also is an active member in the Armenian community of Philadelphia. She sits on the steering committee of the Armenian General Benevolent Union’s Young Professional Philadelphia Chapter, and also is responsible for coordinating an annual Armenian Genocide Walk, which is held on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art each April.
