Thursday, October 11, 2018 2:46 PM | PPRA

The Philadelphia Public Relations Association (PPRA) will present the prestigious 2018 Gold Medal Award to Meryl Levitz, president and CEO of VISIT PHILADELPHIA®, on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at Sofitel Philadelphia, 120 South 17th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103. The PPRA Gold Medal Award honors individuals and organizations whose accomplishments leave a lasting impact on our community and bring national recognition to the city of Philadelphia.

“Over the last 20 plus years, Meryl Levitz has helped transform the region’s image and turned Philadelphia into a must-visit destination,” said PPRA President Nina Scimenes. “As a leader of the region’s official tourism marketing organization, Meryl and her team have challenged perceptions and produced forward-thinking marketing initiatives to drive visitation and boost the economy.”

At the helm of VISIT PHILADELPHIA since its inception in 1996, President and CEO Meryl Levitz has excelled in fulfilling the mission of the region’s official tourism marketing organization, convincing people that Philadelphia is a fun place to visit, building lasting and impactful partnerships and putting the region on people’s must-visit lists.

Recognized nationally for their tourism marketing work, Levitz and her team have worked hard to entice domestic visitors—a record 43.3 million of them visited Greater Philadelphia in 2017 – to stay overnight during the week, weekend and all year long. They do this through advertising, public relations, web and social media tactics, hotel marketing and research.

These efforts have grown the regional economy by creating jobs, boosting local businesses and generating tax revenue. In 2017, tourism generated $11.5 billion in economic impact and supported 98,300 jobs for Greater Philadelphia residents.

The 2018 Gold Medal Award luncheon will feature Bobbi Booker as Master of Ceremonies with special remarks by Levitz's colleagues. Previous recipients of the PPRA Gold Medal Award include the Phillie Phanatic; Mural Arts Program Director Jane Golden; Mayor Michael Nutter; Chef Jose Garces; Governor Ed Rendell; Executive Vice President of Comcast David L. Cohen; University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann, among others.
